BELAGAVI: anganwadi in the slum of Kanbargi Sagar Nagar here has become a smart anganwadi with smart boards installed thanks to the Mahesh Foundation, a non-
Profit NGO is committed to the welfare of HIV-positive and orphans.
The Mahesh Foundation adopted Sagar Nagar slum three years ago and opened an anganwadi for slum children.
Anganwadi started with only 20 children but has now increased to 50.
By converting ordinary anganwadi into intelligent, the foundation will educate slum children by showing stories and pictures on the smart board through computer programs.
Mahesh Jadhav, head of the Foundation, said this is to make children happy at school, and they should not skip classes except to attract more children to anganwadi.
S. Basavayya, managing director of Syndicate Bank, unveiled the SMART Board in the presence of Vinay Kumar bank's annual general meeting on Friday.
The foundation has taken this initiative to attract children from slums to school and mainstream them in education.
However, it is the first intelligent angavadi in the city.
A few months ago, the Foundation introduced solar energy to the sagarnagar slum, which brought a lot of changes to the lives of slum dwellers.
Sagar Nagar slum houses about 260 families.
In addition to raising awareness of healthy living and hygiene, the Mahesh Foundation provides free health care services to slum dwellers.
