As Apple seeks to increase the number of OLED screen vendors, these screens will be used for Apple's next-generation iphone.
OLED screens use technology to create more colorful, detailed images and maintain a longer battery life.
Sharp said today that it will invest about $0. 566 billion to develop OLED production facilities and plans to launch them by June 2018.
Bloomberg pointed out that the funds will be used for equipment at Sharp's factory and provide sample products to customers.
Sources say any OLED supply agreement between Apple and Sharp will depend on Sharp's capacity.
