An Apple spokesman said: "Apple's international proposal for product prices is based on several factors, including currency exchange rates, local import laws, business practices, taxes and costs of doing business.
"These factors vary by region and time, so international prices are not always comparable to the retail prices we suggest.
"Apple's statement suggests that the pound factor appears large in its decision, but it is well known that the price of the pound against the dollar is fixed, and the dollar has always been strong, aggravating the rising monetary factor.
The company said it also raised prices in the United States, although it could be a weaker profit margin.

This is not the first time Apple consumers have seen prices rise since Britain voted to leave the EU.
In August, the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus sold for 599 and 719 respectively, up 11% and 16% from the previous version.
Earlier this week, Microsoft announced a 22% increase in commercial customers for its cloud products due to currency changes.
Earlier this month, Tesco and other supermarkets were also looking to raise wholesale prices by 10%.
