As the new app works with smart pens to capture written text and share and edit content, writing with pen and paper is moving into the digital world.
The new app uses smart pens to bring things or sketches people write on paper to paper and enhance it with highlights, graphics, and text.
Written text can also be shared via email or other applications such as Dropbox for cloud storage or Evernote for archiving.
The IPhone and iPad app EquilNote is paired with a smart pen called Equil JOT.
Its creators say the appeal is to protect the art of writing while updating the art of writing with digital enhancements.
"The best ideas tend to start on paper," says Greg appenhof, president of the Americas at Equil, South Korea --based company.
"But people use a variety of ways to capture notes, from a piece of paper to a very expensive Journal.
"We want to create something that can capture everything, no matter where it is written," he said in an interview . ".
Appelhof says that since the notes are written with a smart pen, it is visible in the app at the same time and accurate to pixels.
The app communicates with the smart pen and the receiver located at the top of the paper via Bluetooth.
The receiver uses infrared and ultrasonic waves to determine the location of the smart pen.
The app also allows users to take photos, enhancing the photo taking effect by wrapping the area with a smart pen or adding written notes in the blank space.
EquilSketch is another app that the company has released for iOS devices, allowing artists and designers to create multiple
Layer sketches that can be sent to Photoshop and shared to social networks with different brush colors and styles.
Appelhof says the app's goal is for students and professionals who don't want to regain handwritten notes on digital devices.
"If I am a student who takes notes in a classroom, I can highlight notes quickly or change the color of certain texts," he said . ".
Based in California, with similar technology, Livescribe last week released a smart pen called Livescribe 3 that allows users to capture notes as they write them into the app
The app is called Livescribe and can be used for iOS devices or audio recording for each note.
Both apps are available online and in Apple stores worldwide for about $149. 99.
Livescribe 3 requires special paper sold by the company.
