Camarillo planners give in to the owner of the motel and advise the city to lift the theater ban

On Tuesday, the planning committee unanimously voted to suggest that the city council allow eight hotels and motels in the city, many of which are bordering the Ventura Highway, to install tent signs of up to 40 square feet in size.
Tony Boden, director of planning, said the owner of the motel had been applying for permission for such a sign for years, as the city banned it for aesthetic reasons.
Owners of hotels and motels can now post monument signs showing only the name of the business.
Shirley Lee, the public relations manager at the two Camarillo hotels, said the motel owners needed eye-catching signs to promote discounted rates and other specials to attract new customers.
