If you expect a long team of eager potential employees to appear in your minimum wage position, then it may be time to rethink your business model and attitude.
When there is a shortage of labor, it should put upward pressure on wages, but B. C.
Mark Thompson, an honorary professor at Sauder Business School in UBC, said businesses did not seem to have received this information.

"If you pay them enough, you can do skill work, but you have to make their time worth it," he said . ".
"Economic theory says that if you are short of something, raise the price.
If they want better applicants in the hospitality industry, they should raise their salary but they don't.
"The retail and hospitality industry has historically paid the minimum wage to as many employees as possible, but some businesses have recently announced that they will close or shorten their operating hours due to a shortage of employees.
"If you build your business and loans on a minimum wage basis, you will have to rethink your business model," Thompson said . ".
Good workers have realized that they can choose their employer instead of the other way around.
WorkBC has released about 36,000 jobs across the province.

According to the help wanted report produced by the independent business Federation of Canada, it has not been filled out for four months.
This is by far the highest number outside Ontario and Quebec.
If employers fail to provide a safe, comfortable working environment, they will find it increasingly difficult to retain employees in such an environment.
"If the labor market is strong, people will move because they have a choice," Thompson said . ".
An informal survey conducted by Postmedia of people who recently left office found complaints about verbal abuse, unreasonable wage deductions, drunk work in the supervisor and lack of attention to employee safety.

"Some hotels are also abusing foreign temporary workers programs to provide employees for their franchises and drive down wages.

Employers such as Starbucks have improved their retention rates by providing employees with benefits such as tuition reimbursement, dental and vision insurance.
In any fast service chain, the company has the lowest turnover rate.
Other restaurants, such as McDonald's, are installing touch screen kiosks in their restaurants, reducing demand for counter staff.
