The Standing Committee on Planning, heritage and economic development of the city unanimously adopted a proposal to limit the brightness of the night electronic logo to 500 nits.
The city of Windsor seems to limit the brightness of the LED signsA nit, which is the unit of measurement of the brightness.
A nit is equal to the amount of light produced by a standard candle.
As reported by CBC News last week, there is currently no limit on the brightness of the LED logo.
City planner Adam Coates of the city says the new restrictions will align Windsor's nit restrictions with Toronto.
"This is an upper limit.
The usual range is between 300 and 500.
The upper limit is 500.
Since we didn't see too many complaints, we decided that 500 was the right number.
Coates says the brightness of 500 nits is about the same as the TV in your home.
The new restrictions are only valid at night, from dusk to dawn.
There will also be higher restrictions during the day.
The new restrictions apply only to the new logo.
In the past three years, officials have complained only once about the signs, Coates said.
This change must still be submitted to the Council for approval.
