curved tvs: 6 reasons you should buy one--and 6 more why you shouldn\'t - draw on screen

After years of being covered up by the "concept corner" of various technology displays, in January, when Samsung and LG revealed that their new TV series would contain some curved TVs, the curved TV burst into the mainstream. screen ranges.
As previously reported, Sony has now also launched a new curved 4 K/uhd TV, and Samsung reports that its flagship curved uhd TV is selling at a higher price than its flagship flat-panel uhd TV.
In other words, the curved TV screen looks like it's going to stay.
But should you buy one?
Here, I draw on some of this year's experience of curve TV big beats, outlining the key pros and cons of the new TV shape. (
See "4 k TV: 9 reasons why you should buy one" for more TV suggestions"
There are also 9 TV sets you should not watch and 10 TV sets of the year.
For a full review of the two new curved TVs, check out our review of Samsung UN65JS9000 and Samsung UN65JS9500. )1.
When you look at the real world, you feel more immersed in what you are looking at, and you don't think it's just a flat "screen ".
The circular nature of the eyeball also gives you the vision around you so that you can realize the world that extends around you.
The curved TV tries to replicate this sense of the world around you and in front of you by bending the edges of their photos to you, making you more immersed in what you are watching. 2.
You feel like you're going through a wider field of view, gently bending the edges of their photos forward, and the curved TV seems to fill your field of view better than the flat-screen TV-as long as you're sitting in roughly the right position, anyway. 3.
You will see more clarity on the edge of the image, because the curved screen tracks the natural shape of your eyes better than the flat screen, and their images look slightly clear on the edge.
It is this phenomenon that causes many commercial cinemas to use curved screens, because the larger the screen, the more likely your eyes will feel the reduced sharpness of the edges if the screen is flat.
With this in mind, though, I would say that this clarity point is only available for oversized TVs of 70 inch and more. 4.
You think the picture has more depth. The first thing many people say when trying to bend the TV for the first time is that the picture feels 3D.
This is because the curved screen makes the image present on multiple depth planes with physical foreground and background
Like a 3D image (
Or the world around us, come and see).
This depth attribute is very important, and Samsung uses the processing function on the curved TV to make the image more effectively combined with the bending properties of the screen. 5.
Although I haven't seen enough curved TVs yet, you can enjoy a richer contrast performance and have confidence in confirming this, on the grounds that, since the curved screen focuses the light on your seat position, rather than spreading the light across a wider area like a flat-screen TV, they can provide almost twice the perceived contrast. 6.
You can look at the photos from a wider perspective and you may think I lost the plot in this movie.
Especially in the shortcomings of this article, there is also a problem of perspective!
But this is the case.
As anyone who has to watch a normal LCD TV from the side will know, when you are not sitting across the screen, the color loses saturation and the contrast is greatly reduced.
Because the curved TV will turn off the edge of the image
However, the position of the Axis observation will greatly reduce the usual color and contrast reduction associated with these observed positions. 1.
When viewing from the side, you will see the geometry problem. Let's start with the counter.
The sixth "question" argument.
Because if you sit at more than 30 angles-
When watching a curved TV, the shape of the photo begins to look unnatural, especially if the near side looks narrower than the far side.
Sitting at a very wide angle, when the edge of the screen is curled in front of the image, you may even lose the near side of the picture completely. 2.
You need to sit in the right place to appreciate the advantages of curve TV mentioned in several of our professional views, and many of the obvious advantages of curved TV screens are only when you sit at the "sweet spot" opposite the screen ", and it makes you feel closer to the screen than you usually sit in the same position --sized flat TV.
To be fair, the size of the ideal viewing space for a curved TV is proportional to the size of the screen you have, so for a very large screen, this is not a problem.
By using a mild curvature, the potential ideal viewing area is also expanded, as is used on Sony's new curved TV.
But now with most curved TVs, trying to get the whole family into the best spot to watch might not always be practical. Or comfortable! 3.
You can feel the reflection of the curved TV on the screen more clearly. This is the biggest problem with curved TV at present.
If you have any bright light sources across the curved screen-windows, lamps, A bright piece of furniture etc-then you won't see this light source reflected on the screen as you did on a flat panel TV.
Instead, the curves distort the reflection of a larger portion of the screen, making it more likely to spoil your viewing.
With this in mind, you should be very careful to place a curved TV in the room, and when you want to really concentrate on something, try to use it in as dark as possible. 4.
Currently, you need to spend more money on a curved screen that is more expensive than a flat screen.
This means they will spend more money as well.
With the arrival of a economies of scale in production, this cost difference may be reduced or even eventually disappear, but now, unless you are strongly persuaded by curve professionals, otherwise, the price difference may be the reason why you will keep your next TV stable. 5.
When mounted on a wall, you may find the curved screen looking awkward, while the curved TV mounted on a desk or floor stand is appealing and they don't make the wall flower comfortable.
The way their edges stay away from the flat walls at the back looks normal, ironically, it reminds you of a key reason for the flat
The flat-screen TV was first invented. 6.
You need to be bigger than you think, and everything I 've seen so far leads me to believe that the effectiveness of the curved screen is proportional to the size of your TV.
In fact, for any curved TV with a size of less than 65 inch, the disadvantages of the curve tend to outweigh the conventional advantages.
