"On January 2014, Nichols suffered spinal cord injury in a college hockey match, when he was examined from behind, resulting in a C5 spinal fracture.
After the accident, students in Menlo Township received a lot of support from the hockey community, including the New Jersey Devils and WFAN.
Five years later, Nichols is now an ambassador to the Reeve Foundation to help accelerate the development of spinal cord injury treatment in order to express his gratitude.
