Electronic signature service DocuSign said on Tuesday that after a surge in phishing emails sent to users, hackers temporarily gained access to the database containing customer emails.
The company has about 0. 2 billion users, and the company says the emails mimic the DocuSign brand, deceiving recipients to open Microsoft Word documents containing malware.
The invasion comes amid heightened concerns about computer network security around the world, after more than 300,000 computers in 150 countries have been attacked by "ransomware" networks since Friday.
DocuSign's services are widely used by big banks and insurance companies to track financial transactions, with 12 out of the top 15 in the United StatesS.

The private holding company, which produces software to add electronic signatures to documents that comply with the law, said it only visited the email address.
DocuSign stated on its website that there was no access to the name, physical address, password, Social Security number or credit card data.

The mail campaign says it has introduced new security measures to prevent further violations and is working with law enforcement agencies.
DocuSign is one of the investors of skateboarding legend Tony Hawk and actor Jared Leto, worth about $3 billion, it has been considered a fast and secure way to sign contracts and other official documents using fingers on mobile devices.
DocuSign is widely expected to file an initial public offering this year.
In January, the company hired Dan Springer, who has experience as a listed company, as chief executive.
