I want this Dragon and the boy)
Leyland hissed. Try again.
I am writing this article, do I miss the keyboard?
"Pen" is a stylus, "paper" is a plastic tablet like the size of a mouse
My computer is plugged in.
If Bill Gates is right, it's the future.
For years, whenever he showed off Microsoft's technology, one of the projects was a "tablet," which he wrote to show how intuitive the computer was about to become.
Gates's dream has finally come true.
Windows XP, a replacement for Windows 98 launched last week (see right)
There's a built-in handwriting-
Identification System-
This is just one of the many people who want to cater to keyboard phobia.
Ten years ago, handwriting recognition began to get very bad when it was launched on a large scale as a big event for Apple Newton.
Unfortunately, it is bad and slow.
The Cowton sank without a trace.
With better software and more powerful computers (
You need at least one Pentium III to run this), hand-writing-
Recognition is good enough for prime time.
When I slide the stylus over the tablet, uneven scribbles appear in the word document on the screen.
Writing disappears whenever I pause for more than a second, like magic, and typed words are added to the story.
And, as I develop a clear round hand instead of my usual pointless graffiti, more and more typing words are the same as the ones I write.
To try digital writing for Windows XP, I added a graphic tablet for Wacom.
Easy to install: Just plug in the USB cable and you can leave.
Place the pen on the tablet and the cursor appears in the same part of the screen.
Either enter the word in a separate window, which then appears in the document, or write the word anywhere on the tablet, and the word appears at the cursor.
This is more intuitive, but it's easy to move the cursor to the wrong place.
Moreover, although it is easy to draw with a pen, it takes a little time for writing to adapt because the pen will slide over the surface.
But this is just the beginning.
Wave tablet-
The computer starts from the Far East with a large screen color and no keyboard.
The idea is that people will put them on their legs, write with styluses, and connect to the Internet via a wireless link.
Handwriting on Windows XP will make them easier to use, but the initial cost will be high.
In the United States, Sony is already selling a desktop Vaio called the Slimtop Pen tablet
Sensitive screen that can be tilted down so you can write on it.
But it costs about 2,000.
Ericsson and mmO2 next year (
Original BT Wireless)
Thanks to the specially marked Anoto paper, a pen identifying its own handwriting is being introduced.
Call chat-
Pen, it has an infrastructure.
The Red camera on the tip of the pen, so it will record this line as you write it, and transfer it to your phone via the Bluetooth wireless link, then to the international phone
Through the fast GPRS network (
General Packet Radio Service)system.
Microsoft's other new operating system, Pocket PC 2001, was designed for handheld computers, launched last month and features handwriting recognition. Although this is a more limited version for limited computer power supplies such as Compaq Ipaq or the latest Toshiba Genio pocketPC.
With Transcriber, you write each word in a box and pause for a while and it will appear in the document.
As long as you write it clearly, its effect is surprisingly good, although the pause between words is a bit frustrating.
Ericsson ryme, the latest version of the flip-
Open the widescreen phone and identify the letter.
It's a bit laborious but not as bad as texting.
The new feature is ink notes that can be used when you need to take a number or address and don't have time for character recognition.
It just records your writing, so you have to identify it yourself.
