McPhail says the technology is designed to address the long-standing challenges facing the museum: at any time, only a small fraction of the artifacts are on display.
Historical relics must be handled and maintained in particular, which makes it difficult for museums to put too many artifacts at the same time.
There is also limited physical space.
These restrictions are eliminated by this technology.
"I think we should be able to add technology to this story and expand the number of artifacts that tell historical stories," McPhail said . ".
"We should be able to do that and let visitors really understand how these objects have historically worked.
"The African-American museum of history will open on the 23rd.
But Google's display is not expected to show up until next spring.
The museum representative did not respond to a request for comment.
This is not Google's first museum project.
The Google Institute of Culture works with museums and historical sites to incorporate interactive technology into their exhibits, enhance the experience of visitors and reach those who may not be able to reach their physical location.
