Century Park cemetery uses advanced map technology to guide visitors to the graves of loved ones.
Australian location intelligence expert Esri created a website that maps the cemetery so that people anywhere in the world can find friends or relatives through their first or last names.
The deceased search quickly identified a person from 134,000 burial and memorial sites and revealed information such as age and year of death and where they last lived.
It also shows the names and details of others buried in the same plot.
Next is the mobile app, which is scheduled to be released in August, which will enable visitors to navigate around the age of 40.
The site of 5ha Centennial Park is like a GPS on the car.
Matthew Morgan, information technology manager at Centennial Park, said it was a daunting task to search for headstones on foot, but the site made the process easier.
"People can access the records of their ancestors and look at the detailed maps so they know where to go before they leave the house," he said . ".
"With GIS technology, just click a button and all the information and maps are there in the hope of making potentially difficult access easier.
"This is especially beneficial for new or interstate visitors and people who have not been there for a long time, as well as those mourners who want to experience as private as possible.
"Century park also plans to provide people with the ability to use the map search feature on the site to purchase funeral and memorial sites and view the memorial walls in 3D.
"People will be able to make a heritage tour on the cemetery's website," Mr. Morgan said . ".
"The rich history of the cemetery has spanned more than 75 years, and GIS technology has enabled us to communicate this heritage to people conveniently and accurately for the first time.
