A Professional Manufacturer of Smart Interactive Screens For More Than 10 Years
This is something I haven't said outside Michigan, mainly because I live here and I like the little bit of privacy I have in this place I call home, and where I try to live a "normal" life.
Here, for example, no day will a Republican stop and shake my hand. Seriously.
But I think it's time for you guys to come here and hang out with me!
So, consider your invitation to visit Traverse, Michigan, where I hold a film festival every summer, the favorite film festival for filmmakers around the world.
More about this.
Over the past seven years, in addition to my daily work in film and book writing, I have spent a lot of time volunteering in towns in northern Michigan.
As you know, our country is in the long run
Depression (
Say the word "recession" here, someone might hit you).
So I decided to take my timeand resources)
To help the area where I'm calling home now
City center movie palace recovery open.
Traverse City Center is doing a better job than most Michigan cities-meaning "only" five or six stores were boarded in our neighborhood (Or "fried ")
Only 70% of students in nearby primary schools are eligible for the federal free lunch program (i. e.
They live in poverty. .
The local Rotary Foundation, which has a large and gorgeous empty theater, has not shown a film in about 20 years (
There are nearly a hundred years of theaters on this website).
I often pass by it and think, "it's not open, it's a shame"-but it's no different from the hundreds of other towns I 've seen around the United States. The locally-
Independent cinemas were abandoned a few years ago.
How I wish some of you younger than me could watch movies in these big rooms! )
Cookie for chain enterprises and indifference-
A low multiplexing of knives
The paid projector runs the projector for all 14 screens.
You can bet, this really improves the sound and picture quality of the movie on these screens-the pleasant experience of "going to the movies" has now become another way to kill some people texting and your girlfriend during the show time between chats.
The $10 popcorn also made things better.
That's why I realized.
If the cinema was designed, built and operated by people who actually made movies, what would it look like?
Why have filmmakers never consulted the content of the film?
What should be the experience?
After all, that's our art, our creative work, on those screens.
Artists have no say in how to show their art to the public.
I asked the Rotary Club to give me the theater for one dollar and we ended up settling it for one dollar.
I built a community. based non-
Will have a profitable organization of the theater.
Four others and I donated all the money needed to bring the theater back to life.
I promise we will complete the entire reconstruction in six weeks. And we did.
Hundreds of people have invested in the production of DingTalk and curtains-the new "Traverse City Historic National Theatre" opened in 2007 with 584 brand new brands --in-
Michigan's largest screen in 150 miles --of-the-
Art sound system, a new balcony built from scratch, complete restoration of 1940 Art Deco decor, and a licensed booth where you can get drinks and popcorn for just $2. 00.
As the president and volunteer programmer of the theater, I promise to bring "Great Movies", especially those that have never been to the Northern Michigan region.
The National Theater has been one of the largest since we reopened
Box office revenue from independent art companies in North America.
We're in the top 10.
Today, the total box office of the theater is 138 weeks.
Understand this-in those weeks, 62 weeks, we were the first theater in the country to show movies.
This success happened at a time when national film attendance dropped over the past decade-for us, it happened in a depressed state and a politically conservative rural area
100 miles from the college.
I'm going to make a bold (but true)
Statement: you will not walk into a better, more friendly and better cinema anywhere in the United States. S.
More than Traverse City State Theater.
I'm not kidding.
When you leave you will wonder why every movie
Experience can't be like this.
How did we do it? 1.
We have no desire for profit (e. g.
You will never see a commercial before a movie).
All decisions are based on what is best for customers, the community, and the art of film.
When the movie theater owners say "we make money with popcorn", we don't agree with their cynical attitude!
"Instead, we make the money we need to run the country by showing only good films.
For five years, we spent every day in the dark room. 2.
We are mainly volunteers. run operation.
To ensure the presence of this non-profit theater, hundreds of people work one or two shifts a month.
The theater is basically owned and managed by its stakeholders-citizens of the region.
Everyone has a vested interest in its success. 3.
If we find you texting, checking emails or talking on your mobile phone in the movie, you will be banned from performing in the theater for life.
Now, go back to the reason why I want you to be in Traverse City a few weeks later.
Two years ago, my neighbor and I regained state.
After opening, I held a film festival called "Traverse City Film Festival" in Traverse City.
"It's been eight years now-I would like to invite you to come here this summer to have a taste.
This will be different from anything else you do.
During the six days of the festival, I will show the great mix of novels, non-fiction and foreign films I have discovered over the past year-91 of them are all.
In 2011, the total attendance rate of all our holiday films was 128,000!
The whole event took place in this town, which is located on a beautiful bay and is part of Lake Michigan.
Tickets are cheap and there are a lot of activities like the night out movies we showed in 100.
The foot screen by water is free.
You can park and walk (
Or take a free shuttle bus)
