The mayor of Kingston has called on the province to invest in the construction of additional lanes and other safety measures to improve the condition of the busy Highway 401 in eastern Ontario.
Physical improvements to the highway, such as adding a third lane in both directions, improved interchange and more electronics to remind drivers of bad weather or driving conditions, said Brian Patterson
On April, the Kingston City Council called on the Ministry of Transport and Environment to "consider additional safety measures, including banning vehicles carrying hazardous materials when the weather becomes bad ".
The bill is the latest in a series of municipal complaints filed with the province following a major crash in a busy corridor.
"The fact that we are regional centers for Kingston means, yes, that if major accidents happen frequently, we get stuck, even if the accident happens on or off the highway, "Patterson said.

It also called on the provincial government to extend Highway 401 to six lanes through southeast Ontario.
Late last month, two people were killed on the highway near the intersection of Highway 416.
The Prescott Commission, in calling for a widening of the highway, approved a motion by four Conservative MPs in eastern Ontario.
Mpps's motion states that since May, more than a dozen fatal crashes have occurred within 401 kilometers between Cornwall and Trenton.

Transportation Minister Steven Del Duca said at a meeting in Kingston this month that the province will add variable information signs along the highway from the port of hope to the Quebec border, warn the driver of a bad weather forecast.
