lg oled tv: one step closer to perfection - led display screen

We can't wait to get the new LG EG9600-
Oled TV, this is the first 4 k Ultra hd oled TV we have tested.
Anyone who is very concerned about image quality has been waiting anxiously for oled TV as it is clear that plasma TV is moving in the direction of dodo
Despite the superior performance, the projection TV and crt TV are the same.
Due to the continuous development, the LCD technology must be improved. more-
Complex means of addressing its inherent weaknesses.
But most TV testers in the consumer report have a gray-black, backlit non-LCD
The viewing angle is narrow and uniform.
That's why we have such high hopes for oled TV, using a launch-or light-producing—
Like a plasma device.
This means that you don't need a separate backlight like an LCD TV because it's hard for an LCD TV to turn black completely.
In fact, OLED has many properties of plasma TV, such as unlimited viewing angle and anti-fast blurmotion scenes.
However, it can produce a darker black than the plasma, which can not only enhance the contrast in the dark scene, but also serve as the basis for excellent color reproduction.
OLED also assumes some of the properties we like about LCD devices, such as better-than-
Plasma brightness and LED-
Energy efficiency, for example
When you combine all of these ingredients together, you have the best TV recipes of all time.
In many ways, 55-
LG 55EG9600 set ($5,500)
It's one of the best TVs we 've ever tested.
In fact, without mediocre sound quality, its total score will be the highest in our TV ratings.
It's extremely high.
HD quality, super HD performance is very good. (
LG promises that TV can be updated to a high dynamic range (HDR)
Ability to update via firmware later this year. )
It also has benchmarks --
We look forward to setting the black level from the oled TV.
However, lg oled TV also has some defects that affect its overall performance.
In fact, the problem with the first set of products we purchased was very serious and we had to replace its panel.
As a result, we bought another set just to make sure that what we see is not abnormal.
Even though we found some problems, most of us here will pick this TV from all the TVs we tested this year as the one we want to have most.
Here's the lg oled TV we found while testing the battery.
Overall, the LG 55EG9600 has excellent high
Picture quality;
Its UHD screen shows the best details and the color accuracy is very good, making the image look very natural.
It's no surprise that the set has excellent contrast, which gives the image a lot of depth and size, its black color
Horizontal performance is one of the best we can see from any TV
The depth of black does not change with the viewing angle like the LED/LCD model.
But there was a problem shortly after we started the test: After calibrating the TV to get the best black level and shadow details, we noticed a little bit brighter the black level a few days later than before, there is a visible, slightly different intensity vertical lighting band array on the screen.
To keep this up, we almost turned off the lights in the room so we could see this clearly.
We tried to adjust these bright stripes by lowering the brightness control of the TV, but without the broken shadow details, we could not make the TV pure black.
As you can see in the photo above, the band can also be seen on our dark gray test pattern (
Give your technician a 10 IRE gray field mode)
, Subtle visible in the dark video content.
It was at this time that we decided to send the TV for repair.
The service center decided to replace the panel, during which time we purchased the second 55 eg9600 to see if it had the same problem.
The second set did not show bright black and we were able to get deep black as well as good shadow details.
But the two groups still show prompts for the vertical band, although they are certainly not a problem during normal viewing.
You can see these two sets in the following scenario
New model on the left, original model after repair on the rightside by side.
But we also noticed another problem with the two groups, which is a bit of a problem: the left and right edges of the image mainly show a slight but visible darkening in a darker scene, almost like an episode effect, this is a bit distracting when it comes up.
You can see what we mean in the 10 IRE grayscale image and close range image above
See a scene from the "Guardians of the Galaxy" below.
The TV on the left is a larger LED/LCD TV;
Oled TV on the right.
This effect is evident on both edges of the OLED screen, but especially on the left edge where the image is basically darkened, shielding important picture information that is clearly visible on the LCD display.
This problem can only be seen in dark scenes;
When the screen shows a brighter image, it disappears.
We also noticed some other small things in the test.
One reason is that this lg oled TV is affected by some temporary image retention, and when the video is not shown on the screen, the very subtle ghost of the TV's bright menu window is still visible.
After we watched the mailbox movie for a few hours, we also found that the upper and lower parts of the image were somewhat darkened.
These effects are very subtle and may not be detected under normal viewing conditions, eventually the ghosting disappears.
Since OLED is so new, we don't know if these problems will lead to permanent image aging yet.
We also noticed that when a static image is left on the TV, the black level becomes unusually bright: There is also a black test image on the display, and after a few minutes we noticed that the black level of the TV suddenly turned on.
We didn't see this when we watched normally, and LG speculated while visiting our lab that it might have been due to the TV calling the-burn-in feature.
Because it didn't show up when we did normal testing with sports video, we didn't emphasize it too much and we suspect any audience would be bothered by it.
So far, our comments have focused on some of the defects detected when testing the LG 55EG9600.
But to be fair, the positive properties of this lg oled TV are much more than its drawbacks.
The level of detail of the image is very good, we don't see the obvious stripes in the scene with subtle shadows --to-
Dark areas, such as the sky at sunset.
The set does a great job of lifting standard HD fares, and when converting HD video content (such as from cable) to local resolution of the display, it takes only a small amount of aliasing.
Its stunning black level and the resulting contrast helps to put the quality of this model in the best TV we 've tested.
In order for this oled TV to really turn black, check the photos below and the LED backlight has many areas that can be partially darkened compared to the LCD TV that outputs the LED backlight.
In this mode we created to test the local dimming effect, two white balls move horizontally on the screen.
You can see at a glance that the LCD TV on the left is activating a whole set of LEDs at the same time in order to illuminate the ball while driving in the area, creating a light band behind the object.
On the other hand, OLED can only illuminate the ball while retaining a darker black color outside the white border.
The backlight effect on the LCD is a bit exaggerated because it is shot slightly off the angle
A dirty little secret about local dimming is that the aura it causes is usually exacerbated when it deviates from the angle --
But again, it's not something you have to worry about for OLED devices, which have an almost infinite perspective.
This means that the level and contrast of black does not decrease when you leave the center, although the image does cause the color temperature to change slightly in the cool direction, when you leave the front and the middle, it will make a bluer sound.
Overall, the theLG55EG9600 is one of the best TVs we 've tested this year, and some of the flaws we noticed have turned pale compared to various images
When we test the LCD device, we see the related anomalies every day.
The TV has achieved "excellent" in HD image quality, its Ultra HD performance is very good, just because its quirks caused some excessive grinding to Local 4 k content, movies and test videos including Sony FMP
X10 UHD player connected via HDMI, as well as photos and videos played via USB drive.
This adds to the roughness of very fine detail edges. (
This doesn't seem to be an issue with 4 k streaming shows from Netflix or YouTube. )
This is due to the influence of TV's "super-resolution" image --
It is obvious though it is closed.
We were able to deactivate the feature by going to the menu and turning it on and then turning off, but when the TV is turned back on, the feature is reactivated by default.
Hope to solve this problem with future firmware updates.
As you expect from this expensive TV set, this lg oled TV comes with a curved, thin
Border UHD screen located on top of transparent plexiglass holder. The TV is 3D-
Ability, this is consistent with the company's point of viewand-
Click on the Magic Remote and webOS Smart TV platform to access content through a row of graphic blocks arranged in the lower part of the screen.
The set has been built in-in HEVC (Amazon Netflix)
And VP9 support (YouTube)
For 4 k streaming video, all three HDMI inputs from the TV are in line with the latest HDCP 2.
2 Copy the protection specification.
However, there are only two HDMI 2.
0 is compatible, thus being able to support 4 k video playback at 60 hz, which is for devices with emerging 4 k movie playback such as UHD Blu-
Ray players are expected later this year.
If so far we seem to be too picky about LG's oled TV, it's just because we believe the technology has a lot of hope for those looking for a country --of-the-
Television art performance
When we re-watched the lg 1080 p OLED last year, we noticed the color shift to red and noticed some noise reduction that could not be turned off.
LG has corrected these issues and has now turned to higher resolution for UHD, which looks great on this set once we have corrected excessive enhancements.
As mentioned earlier, most of us who report coverage TV for consumers may choose this set among all the TVs we have tested
Although it may be 65-
The screen size is inches if we don't have to pay.
Since LG is currently the only TV manufacturer that offers OLED televisions, it is actually building a market for its own new TV technology, and we applaud the company for that.
So far, with every iteration we 've seen, OLED technology seems to be one step closer to becoming the holy grail of TV viewing-perfect TV. —James K.
