The long arm is important so that it can lean over, but also thin enough that it doesn't blur your point of view, and I chose a clip base that is more portable but weighs just as well.

I used Logitech 9000 pro because I can buy it on ebay for $40.
Any webcam with about 2 megapixels and proper lenses (not VGA)is perfect.
