Algebra students at Ismat Shari have been pestering her about this question: in fact, when can I use this thing on her regional website, she lists 100 different situations in which algebra she teaches students will work, including everything from juggling and Sudoku puzzles to digging oil or drawing a map of the brain.

The Ministry of Education of the State Department quoted her this week as "a strong determination to ensure that all students find hidden potential and succeed" by appointing Shali as the annual teacher in Mercer County.
The Hamilton Township School District also appointed her teachers of the year.

The annual state teachers will be announced in October and represent New Jersey in the annual National Teacher competition.

Shari asked her students to complete several projects each year, asked them to accept a mathematical concept and find the way it appears in their daily lives.
In a recent project on parabolas, the students brought back dozens of examples, including bridges, McDonald's highway signs, and even photos of themselves jumping or posing.
"With math, I really believe that not only does my students need to do the job, but they also need to understand the subject.
