On Tuesday night, company leaders Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer briefed the new product at the All Things D technology conference.
The new operating system is expected to be available in early 2010.
Microsoft wants Windows 7 to respond better, because Windows Vista, while largely shunned by businesses, still sells 0. 15 billion units.
The new fingertip interface will start on Apple's iconic iPhone, allowing users to zoom in and out photos, track routes on maps, draw pictures, switch documents, and select apps.
"The way you interact with the system will change dramatically," Microsoft chairman Gates said . ".

Ballmer revealed that Microsoft is still negotiating a partnership with Yahoo to compete with Google for Internet advertising. But he insists the company will not overpay the portal.
