Scientists are tracking a strange white cloud on the surface of Mars.
The huge amount of cloud is about 900 miles (1500km)
It is located near the equator of the Axia Monsi volcano.
In the past half month, there has been no active volcano on Mars.
Therefore, ESA scientists are very sure that this has nothing to do with any type of volcanic eruption.
Despite its location, this atmospheric feature has nothing to do with volcanic activity, instead, the water-ice cloud, driven by the influence of the volcanic Leeward slope on the airflow-a common phenomenon in the area that scientists call topography or Li Yun, the European Space Agency explained (ESA)
It describes the cloud as "curious ".
The cloud has changed and grown throughout Mars day.
It is now large enough to be seen from telescopes on Earth.
ESA explained that the formation of water-ice clouds is sensitive to the amount of dust present in the atmosphere. Monitoring cloud with infrared mineral mapping spectrometer for ESA (OMEGA)
High Resolution Stereo Camera (HRSC)
On the Mars Express
Of course, there are some corners of the Internet that think that some kind of volcanic eruption may have caused the cloud.
The conspiracy theory was quickly overturned by scientists.
The space agency will study these images obtained after major sandstorms sweeping Mars in June and July to gather important information about the impact of dust on cloud development and its changes throughout the year.
