Powerful cameras on Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter are currently looking for water on the red planet.
Two photos taken by high-resolution imaging science experiments (HiRISE)
The camera is combined to make our planet side by side with unlimited space for spectacular views.
The images were actually taken to calibrate HiRISE, but eventually took spectacular views of the Earth and the moon from about 0. 127 billion miles away.
NASA explained that the "red feature near the middle of the Earth" is Australia.
"These images were taken to calibrate the HiRISE data because of the reflection ratio of the lunar earth-
"Facing the side is well known," it wrote . ".
"For the demonstration, exposure is handled separately to optimize the details visible on the Earth and the moon.
"The moon is much darker than the Earth, and if displayed at the same brightness scale as the Earth, it is almost invisible.
"Last year, NASA released photos taken from 1 million miles from Earth that show the glory of our planet.
"The Turquoise region in the middle is the shallow sea around the Caribbean islands.
"This Earth image shows the effect of sunlight being scattered by air molecules, bringing a typical blue hue to the image.
