American philanthropist Tom Steyer has unveiled a $20 million advertising campaign calling for impeachment of the president.
The main part of his push is the placement of two huge digital billboards in Times Square, a landmark commercial crossing that sees thousands of people passing through every day.
These billboards will be played ten minutes an hour until New Year's Eve, which includes the number of signatures of petitions set up on the Steyer website.
The petition calls for congressional action to make Donald Trump the third president to be impeached in history.
"Donald Trump took us to the brink of nuclear war, blocked Justice and took money from foreign governments," the petition wrote . ".
"We need to impeach the dangerous president.
Steyer told Bloomberg: "We take it for granted that this is a huge problem before the American people, and no one supports the idea of the vast majority of Americans. "More than 2.
6 million people have signed.
He claimed the campaign was for "direct democracy ".
"It seems that elected officials don't think it's time, and don't think it's tactical intelligence," he said . ".
"We don't want to be tactical.
We have not tried to use it in some way, shape, or form (2018)midterms.
His campaign included television commercials released last month, in which Steyer accused Trump of being "obvious and current danger" to the world and accused him of leading the United States to the brink of nuclear conflict.
"If this is not a reason to impeach and remove a dangerous president, then what will our government look like," Steyer said in a television advertisement . ".
"I am funding this effort to work together to raise our voice and to ask elected officials to take a position on impeachment.
