Want to learn digital painting?
I attended Noah's art camp class in November 2013.
I wanted to get into the game industry at the time, by being a concept artist/digital illustrator, using my creativity and artistic ability to become an art director one day, and since then my goals have changed, I took a similar but different path.
You may now be on the road where you need to learn digital painting, or you just want to improve or learn digital painting.
I will share my experience and results with you and then you can decide if it will fit you or not.
The benefits of digital painting is not just a simple hobby, but more importantly, what you finally learned through the course gives you the creative learning skills that I found very useful and transferable
If you are learning about animation, film making, architecture, or other design disciplines that need to be conceptualized and drawn.
This program will help you understand and improve the process.
For those who want to improve their skills, however, it seems to be their main focus so that they can work as concept artists and digital illustrators.
When I took the course, there was only one art camp package that cost $250.
The course comes with a private Facebook group that allows students to interact, share, and help.
We will enter the submarine.
Groups based on our location, goals, and goals, which allows us to socialize and share our weekly homework for these groups.
Today, the art camp has grown and has two additional courses at the same cost as the student's private forum.
I 've never used forums to be honest, but I have access to them and they look well designed, well structured and active.
The main Facebook is still active as well, and people seem to be using both tools.
The course lasts for 12 weeks and the weekly topics are as follows :(
Note that these descriptions are taken directly from the syllabus)
The first week: the study of the Masters.
Learn how to steal their secrets and do a dedicated master's study. Week 2 -
Sketch in imagination
Too many people ignore how to use what they have learned.
That's why we started to imagine painting so early.
Education without application is useless. Week 3 -Still life.
One of the best ways to practice techniques and learn to render objects.
Their advantage is that they will never move and give you unlimited time to perfect and learn. Week 4 -Self-portraits.
Learning to draw a face requires drawing a lot of faces.
One of the easiest ways to do this is to be self
Portrait, because you never have to worry about finding a willing model. Week 5 -
Air painting and painting.
Going out to work is an excellent way to study people and the natural world.
Let's get into the habit of leaving the studio. Week 6 -
Learn from photos
Photos are easy to get, but can lead to very harmful habits if used improperly.
I will show you how to learn from photo references without compromising your skills. Week 7 -
Materials and edges.
There are many different types of materials in the world, such as cloth, silk, metal, rock, meat, etc.
All of this requires a slightly different treatment.
We will learn how light affects them in different ways and how to use edges to convey textures. Week 8 -
Drawing and drawing characters.
Human form is one of the most beautiful and challenging themes we can describe.
This week we will discuss useful exercises, methods and resources for drawing and drawing graphics. Week 9 -
Concept art and conception.
We will review the basics of developing original concepts in our work.
Even if you want to pursue another area, the ability to come up with unique concepts and ideas is essential in art. Week 10 -
Thumbnail and composition.
This week, as we begin to develop a completed Portfolio article to summarize the course, we will learn how to create compelling dynamic compositions. Week 11 -Color & light.
Using portfolio works that we are creating as a basis, we will explore the world of color and light and learn how to use them to convey emotions. Week 12 -
Complete learning.
Many of us are struggling to get the job done.
We can start to do one thing, but we don't know how to finish our work.
This week, I will review the techniques and methods I used when I finished my work.
Before signing up for the course, it was painful at first, and I bought a Wacom Bamboo that I almost never used.
I am really bad and very painful by practicing.
Noah will basically give you a lot of homework, usually 3-
Work 4 hours a day.
The above is my first assignment to see how bad it is!
Haha, the homework includes two times a week.
The hour video demo of Noah's work explains the workflow and weekly assignments that I found very helpful.
I would love to see him work and see his process (
Especially because it has a direct relationship with that week's homework).
However, sometimes I feel like the video is playing too long, and although Noah is a good teacher and knows what he's talking about, his voice is usually monotonous.
An example of a weekly assignment: this is how the weekly assignment looks.
There was no layering at the time, usually homework was somewhere in the middle, and homework was optional for advanced or super-driven students.
Normal operation: 10x3-
Value composition master studio 10 times Color Studio 1 times
Master's degree work completed in color: 30x 3-
Value combination main studies30x color studies2x full
Master learning task for color completion: 50x 3-
Value combination main studies50x color studies3x full
This thing is both enjoyable and very painful, and it requires us to really focus on this task and use our time wisely.
It taught me patience, a rare thing today and the level of dedication and commitment required by concept artists, digital illustrator or traditional artists to master their craft.
Also, there is a healthy level of competition that forces me to keep working and endure the pain of a huge sucking.
It is very encouraging to see the work of many students who have taken this course before and are re-participating due to the great progress they have made before.
This is social proof for me and other newbies that this course is valid and the pain is worth it now.
The weekly critic Noah at the time will check our homework and reviewers and provide improvements via live video, which is also saved as video.
Seeing that everyone's work is improving and my own work has been done on a couple of occasions is really helpful and makes things more personal.
I still remember the joy and anxiety inside me when I first saw my work appear on the screen.
The art camp has been developing since then and now contains two additional modules: Art Camp 2, which is a supplementary course of art camp 1: Reflection on environmental concept design finally, although I sometimes slack off, or didn't finish all my homework, I made very obvious progress in my work.
It also shows me what aspects of the process I like, as well as my strengths and weaknesses.
This course shows me its profession or skill and also teaches me to embrace pain and work in the process and don't give up.
This lesson is what I am still using today for learning basic programming, web Technologies (
Like html5 and css)
Better written, this is my main focus at the moment.
Best of all, you can access this program for life.
So once I have more time to redo the course and improve it further, I actually plan to go back to the course.
My main focus this time is to improve in the ninth week.
10 th week-concept art and conception
Thumbnail and composition and 11 weeksColor & light.
Because I feel like it will really help me get on the story and get my visual thoughts across to others.
Another thing I forgot to mention is that my most important gain in the course of the course is learning how to learn as an artist or designer.
I continue to apply today.
Can I recommend it? I would.
Because even if I no longer want to be a concept artist/art director, I don't have a buyer who will regret it, I can see the value of this project and the lessons I learned when I went through it.
If you want an affordable art education, a person who is really eager to understand the process, who is willing to work hard, who is willing to push himself forward and go through the initial grind and pain, this course is definitely for you.
