Film producer and screenwriter Joan Long got his first job in the film
Produced by notifying producers that "film is the art of the 20 th century.
He was stunned: for a woman, having a job at the end of the film 1940 was a miracle in itself.
In 1948, she began working in the Commonwealth Film Department as a secretary, but quickly entered the editing room to "learn film grammar" became her job.
Director of the movie Baby (1995)
Chris Nunan has described the Australian film industry as the closest thing to the royal family ".
She was born in Rushworth, rural Victoria, and is one of the five children of the Methodist priest and his wife.
As a graduate of history, she is troubled by what she calls "the intellectual snobbish of film.
She once reflected: "This is not what you do, but what you are interested in.
"In the early days of her career, she was asked to write a script about Australian explorer Edmund Kennedy, who was captured by First Nations in Cape York in 1848.
The producer of the film announced that her script was the first one he had read, showing his true understanding of the way the film was made.
She was soon told to "go out and make a movie ".
This is her award.
Paddington Lace in Christopher McCulloch (1970)
This caught my attention when I was looking for a screenwriter to adapt caddie, an autobiography of a woman forced to do humble work during the Great Depression to support her child
She protested: "I have never written a feature film.
I replied, "I have never produced it . "
So I started a long-term trust career and personal friendship.
For all of us, caddies are a baptism of fire.
We have enough money to shoot for six weeks and a script that should be eight weeks.
Every week, after six days of filming, director Donald klonbi will spend the seventh day and tear down long pages from the script to accommodate the shooting schedule we can afford.
She described each weekend as removing the left and right arms at the same time.
The film, which premiered in London in 1976, was brilliantly played by Helen Morse, attracting the public's imagination in ways never seen in other Australian films.
The success of the caddie inspired Long to take on the dual role of writing and making.
She is the second woman to do so in the Australian feature film in 45 years.
In this dual role, she made the man (1977)
This is to celebrate the lives of those traveling showers who go to the Bush movies with portable projectors and screens.
It is loved by its central figures and has a place in the history of our industry, and these pioneers are largely forgotten.
Then she wrote the 1981 box office success adolescent blues.
Made by Margaret Kelly.
However, her attention is increasingly drawn to a difficult role;
Her next feature is Yincheng (1984).
This is the first film involving Australia's first post-human aspect.
Entrance to War Immigration
David Williamson's Emerald City followed suit in 1989.
Long's feature film received 23 AFI nominations and 7 nominations.
Her documentary was also well received.
The film "moved" and "passion industry" were released in the official selection of the Cannes Film Festival, and in Italy in 1981, she won the prestigious Vittorio de Sika award for her screenwriter.
In writing a narration for my film "The life of photographer Frank Herley", she described Herley as "the stubborn, tireless person ".
Adjectives also describe themselves: Joan Long's tireless commitment to the revival of the Australian film industry in the 1960 and 1970 s was legendary.
The dragon is a natural activist.
As president of the Australian Writers Association, she provided evidence for the 1972 investigation into the Australian film industry.
Of the 99 witnesses, she was one of the only two women.
The man sitting next to her thought she was a secretary.
The chairman of the investigation was otherwise aware.
Her sense of history made her the ideal choice for her appointment as the first president of the National Archives of Film and Sound in 1984.
She was awarded the Australian medal (AM)
In 1980, she served the Australian film industry and won the Dorothy Crawford Award from the Australian Writers Association in 1991.
Her long and distinguished career was further recognized by women in the film and television field in 1997 with the first Venus Award.
Until the disease that caused her death, Joan long has been working for the life of her famous fellow MacDonald sisters, the documentary script for the Australian pioneer film --
