A Professional Manufacturer of Smart Interactive Screens For More Than 10 Years
Point of View: When I shop for my last laptop, I make a conscious effort to exclude all models with touch screens.
This is an easy way to narrow the selection and it makes sense to me: any money I can save by choosing to exit the touch screen would be best used to enhance any other hardware component, or can stay in my pocket.
I admit that the touch screen of smartphones and tablets makes sense, but it is useless in traditional computers.
I'm not sure right now.
I 've been playing with Microsoft's Surface Laptop as my main device for the last few weeks, and even if I barely use it, I like to have a touch screen installed there.
It surprised me when I tried to slide the web page on my old game laptop.
I have never had such a faux pas before having a touch screen laptop.
In my world, only the phone has a touch screen, so muscle memory doesn't exist for me at all.
After a few weeks of using the Surface Laptop, it went so fast that it gave me a serious pause.
It also surprised me because my laptop is not very mobile
I mainly use them as desktops.
The reason why I use my laptop as my main computer is that I have the option to take it with me if I need it.
Touch screen laptops have the same idea.
My laptop is used to work, which means that my main input is the keyboard and mouse (
I hate trackpads and use them only when I absolutely have).
I have a tablet but it is in a drawer and I have never opened it --
When my smartphone does everything I may need from the tablet, switching the device is too laborious.
However, if I want to do something that doesn't work with my laptop, the touch screen can come in handy.
Maybe I want to resize the screen quickly.
Maybe I want to click the close button quickly and it will be easier to click it.
Maybe I want to go through a few photos and I know it's faster than trying to figure out the UI for a given app.
Maybe I want to scroll to a specific location on the web page and it's easier to do this with my thumb.
Maybe I want to move to the couch, which means I'll be closer to the screen, so it makes the most sense to skip the mouse and trackpad.
Make it very clear to me: touch should not replace mouse and trackpad
It's definitely not a keyboard.
But I do want touch to be the standard for laptops, just as everyone now has a webcam and microphone built into it.
There is no webcam and microphone on the desktop, but there is a laptop. It’s a given.
Depending on your purpose of using your laptop, you may not be able to access its camera and microphone in a few days, weeks or even months.
But when you need them, whether it's important international video calls or meetings you need to record, the technology is there.
That's how I view the touch screen now on my laptop.
They are not the default input on the phone and tablet, but they are very useful when you need to reach out to manipulate anything in front of you.
There is no doubt that developers will follow suit once they become standard.
Simple touch more meaningful apps and games will become easier to get.
None of this will replace the production software and the complete
But they will be a choice if you want.
Like a touch screen.
