secrets of luxury hotel design with braytonhughes - whiteboard wall

In the past 30 years, the situation of BraytonHughes has changed a lot.
When Richard Breton and Stanford Hughes set up a design company of the same name in San Francisco in 1989, their focus was on Gao
Ended up working for the company and for years it was a bit of a boy club. Today, two-
There are three jobs for them, mainly ethnic minorities and women.
BraytonHughes is known for telling stories through design.
They will find out what separates the location from the property, and then come up with a concept and theme, carried out in minimal detail, like the denim boot stitching on the leather of the Four Seasons Jackson Hole bar.
The company's meticulous attention to details and layout
The backstage environment reflects the relaxed and comfortable luxury that hotel owners want to create.
The living room is replacing the lobby and the formal flower table entrance is out of date.
Again, in the new office of braytonhughes in San Francisco's financial district, the atmosphere is both focused and fun.
The young colleagues who cut the cloth are smiling, with chocolate-covered alfajores, and some of the wide-ranging people bring it with them to show it to their colleagues under the world map of everyone's trip.
"We are a family.
"We all get along very well," Rachel Fischbach told me . ".
She worked in BraytonHughes for 18 years and became the principal in 2016.
"It's very collaborative as an office.
Many of us like traveling very much. we also encourage young colleagues to travel.
"This passion for travel and the multicultural and multilingual background of her colleagues have enabled BraytonHughes to form an impressive team for each new project.
"Only when I first joined in 1992 did we do the company work," said principal Joel verlalong . ".
"We worked for the company for almost 10 years and then got a committee from Disney to make California big in Southern California.
Some of the four seasons have seen this project and we have now designed and/or renovated more than 10 Four Seasons Hotels.
"In addition to the close relationship with Four Seasons Hotel, BraytonHughes also works with the Fairmont Ritz Hotel
Carlton, Hyatt, and boutique luxury items such as Cavallo Point in sosalito, Ventana Big Sur, and Clement hotel in Palo Alto.
The three BraytonHughes principals-fitchbach, villaon and Kiko Singh-shared their thoughts on trends and hot topics in luxury hotel design.
DiversitySingh: We all have very different points of view, which makes us better as a team.
The best ideas can come from interns, from anyone in the room.
The diversity of leadership allows us to be role models for the rest of the office and demonstrate this friendship.
Sometimes Rachel or I may be the only woman in the room who is with the developers, architects, contractors and finance staff, but we speak out loud.
We are never quiet.
Fischbach: we were allowed the opportunity to acquire this company, which was something I initially realized was impossible.
We have played an important role in its growth, and now we can move in the direction we want.
If you are young and motivated, there is no reason why you can't be a partner.
Sustaindio las: The Inn at Presidio is one of our first LEED projects and was awarded the LEED Gold Medal certification when it opened in 2012.
The elements of the building, the lighting and the mechanical side are all important factors.
It's all very technical when it comes to fixing an old building. [
For example, the Inn at Presidio uses ground denim fabric as a thermal insulation. ]
Some customers are very interested in LEED, but it is much more expensive, which is not important for some owners.
In recent years, the LEED standard has become more expensive, so you have to spend money to become a member of the club.
Singh: I have always been passionate about sustainable development.
I am convening a group on the room life cycle for the NEWH sustainability summit in April.
In California, saving water is the primary concern, but when we can only use 1 shower, we have to make sure that the guest's shower experience is not negatively affected.
5 gallons of water per minute.
Perfect RoomFischbach: is it dark at night?
Is there room for my bag?
Is the bed comfortable?
Bathroom is the key.
It's bright, do I have room to put my stuff out?
I want to feel comfortable in a space like my own bedroom.
If I use it and live in it, I always think about everything I designed.
I walked into any space and I was constantly re-designing it.
Singh: We originally designed the Inter-Continental San Francisco from scratch in 2008, and now we are working on a soft-fitting renovation.
The commonality between these two visions is timeless design, but now we give it the feeling of a complex downtown apartment.
This is a tailor-made fashion men's clothing style with subtle design elements such as buttons and pinstriped carpets on the bed skirt.
Typical rooms feel more masculine, so 14 suites are more feminine in fabric and tone to keep balance.
Hotel room pet peevesankalia: when the door of the bathroom opens to enter the bedroom, you turn on the lights in the bathroom and wake others up.
In addition, the sound effect is very poor.
I don't want to hear what's going on next door.
There is not enough closet space.
The art of hanging too high and the lamps without proper scaling.
This is all about functionality.
Singh: I was crazy when the wall cover didn't match correctly.
I was staring all night.
In addition, the hotel room lacks warmth.
If the floor is cold, I want to put a mat or carpet by the bed.
Sayysingh: With the redesign of the Interstate Hotel San Francisco, we added electric curtains and whiteboard walls to the conference room.
Because everyone is charging multiple devices, we need sockets everywhere.
Technology should be intuitive and make life easier.
Ketra lighting in IHG, ballroom and conference space mimic natural light in custom colors.
This makes it easier for space to be transformed into a canvas for social and corporate activities.
I would like to find a room for virtual reality for our office.
The team of the montage La Quinta project used it and it was very helpful.
It's really surreal when you open Google.
Veralón: We sketch and draw on smaller scales, but rooms tend to be much larger or smaller than you think, so it's really helpful to experience rooms in space through VR.
You really feel like you're there.
I really walked into a wall!
First impression: The entrance experience is one of the key moments of the hotel.
It even started before you opened the door.
What is the sign like?
Is there nature outside?
Montage La Quinta is in
Modern Century, living in the mountains.
The lobby will be a huge room with three glass walls and you can walk through this super shallow lake.
The light creates this glowing lake at night, but you can see the mountains during the day.
Because the room is large and open, it will be separated by screens that are also works of art, with the opportunity to have the art hang from the ceiling and create a glowing mobile device.
I'm imagining a social space-silhouette with martini glasses. Residential Vs.
Business Design: you will see that the line between the hotel and the residence is very vague, and now we see this in the business as well.
For example, at Stanford Hospital, we were specially invited to come in to help them bring a feeling of hospitality in an institutional setting.
Again, we can go to the spa.
Loved the hotel bathroom experience.
You saw a lot.
Pollination in this sense.
Fischbach: from the functional layout, there are many nuances in the hotel design.
All of these residential design stars are hired to be hotels.
They don't use commercial products when you make a home, and things cost more, so they don't take advantage of the hotel custom manufacturers we know.
Imagine designing a ballroom for the first time as a residential designer with carpets, AV, lighting, acoustics, structures.
We work with purchasing agents because of the responsibility issues, but residential designers buy things themselves.
Singh: at the Clement hotel, Mr. Chen, the owner, really wanted to create a feeling of home for the guests, so the design was very clever and simple.
We used plush, but bullets.
The unparalleled service of the boutique hotel is based on waterproof fabric and design. What's Next?
Fischbach: we started designing two new properties using montage, which gave us a lot of flexibility and freedom in our design.
It's fun. . .
We put a bowling alley on the Spanish Peaks in the sky, and we have never played a bowling alley before.
Before we start, we always try to understand the story behind the project.
Veralong: Grand Hyatt at SFO will be our first airport hotel and the first hotel in SFO to be connected by air train.
Along the building curve of the highway.
We work here at the airport and in the city, so the budget is tight and the union labor and construction costs in San Francisco soar.
We are using value engineering to illuminate the ballroom like an art gallery, simplify the finish and leave bare concrete columns instead of covering them with wood.
Many works of art will come from the airport archives.
Singh: My mom has been flying for PanAm and United for 35 years and as a first class crew leader, I feel like I grew up in Terminal 3, so this project is really a passionate project for me.
