teachers seek talks over 'slap' case - classroom board

The teachers' union today asked for an emergency meeting with the attorney general because a person in charge was cleared of the slap in the face of an unruly sixyear-old.
Pamela Mitchell Hill did not attack the girl and was allegedly slapped twice.
Mrs. Mitchell Hill's union wants to know why it's going to sue.
When the girl herself denied being hit, the only other witness stood 30 feet away from the window.
The union's strong protest was revealed in full detail when Mrs. Mitchelhill first went out of her way to help the troubled girl.
Mrs. Mitchelhill's case is the latest in a string of cases in which a respected teacher could not be prosecuted for alleged attacks on children with poor behavior.

They say they are unnecessarily going through the trials of court cases and that their career may end if convicted.
Mrs. mitchhill, secretary-general of NASUWT, Eamonn O'Kane, said: "These cases seem to be being brought to court on a frustrating rule.
You have to ask what these cases are based on, because the impact on teachers can be disastrous.
"He said that in the past three years, five heads of the area where Mrs. Mitchell Hill is located have gone through a similar ordeal, four of whom have been acquitted.

The union says they now want to meet with the head of public prosecution, Ken McDonald, to argue about restructuring --

"We want to raise these issues with the DPP because we have significant concerns about these issues," said O'Kane.
"He believes that CPS should start to look at the allegations against teachers from a different perspective and accept the classroom reality.
