Answer three simple questions.
What is your reporting process like? Cold-calling?
Knock at the door? All of it?
Emily steel: We're looking at a specific case from 2004 when a young producer on Bill O'Reilly's show sued him for sexual harassment.
It's a big open case, with tabloids everywhere, and then it's settled and you never hear from her again.
So we went through the lawsuit first, and then we made a list: Who is this woman?
Where did she go to college?
Who was she working?
He is his employee on these two issues.
Ten years?
Basically, we just started dialing dollars.

We keep calling, calling, calling.
It's a very subtle process to put a compelling source on the record.
How did you deal with it?
Megan TWOHEY: I found out that I believe, "We know we can't change what's going on with you, but we might be able to prevent this from happening with other women.
"In my first conversation, I always tried to stress that it was a process.
I won't hang up and disappear on you and then you will show up in a story.
We will go step by step and you have a say in every step.
Throughout the reporting process, how did your concept of the story change?
Jodi kantor: When we started, I thought we were just correcting the possibility of what happened in history.
In the course of reporting, once we begin to discover the last 2015 events, the moral focus of the story has shifted.
