How to Use file and directory name to improve the search engine ranking of Donald Nelson, copyright 2004 It's getting harder and harder to get a competitive category ranking in search engine queries.
The most important factor in getting a high ranking is to build a website that really deserves the highest ranking;
A website that provides many useful information about the topic being searched.
But in addition to providing the relevant content, it is the presentation of the content, which plays an important role in separating the websites that arrive at the top of the search engine query and the websites hidden on 25 pages.
One factor that is often underestimated in presentations and optimizations is the naming of files and directories.
Search for a keyword that is important to your website and see the results of leading search engines.
The keywords you use in your search are likely to be included in the url of the top site.
Keywords are sometimes included in other parts of the domain name or file name.
One of my new clients has a website about diet.
I Googled the diet and found out that 8 of the 10 top sites listed have the word diet somewhere in the url, in other parts of the domain name or filename.
So, the first thing to consider is whether it is possible to include your main keyword in your domain name.
If you have established a domain name and website and the keywords are not included, it is not possible to change your domain name.
In this case, however, you can use some tips in this article that will show you how to add keywords to other parts of the url, if you later set up any subdomain related to your primary domain name, then try to use your keywords or keywords in the new domain name.
Does the domain name or file name have to be hyphen? This is a controversial issue, but if you look at how Google is currently dealing with queries, you can make your own conclusions.
If you query a specific keyword in Google and then look closely at the url of the website on the search results page, you will see that the keyword of the query is displayed in bold in the url, even if keywords are combined with other words that do not have hyphen, they are displayed in bold.
So for Google at least, you don't need a domain name like www. website-search-engine-optimization-promotion. com (
As some people do! ).
Directories and file names while it is usually important to note that keywords are included in the domain name, little attention is paid to including keywords in the internal files of the website.
For example, when I make a query on a diet, the top three websites do not have the word diet in the domain name, but in the file name.
If you are a very competitive category, then you can try and make pages with keywords in three different sections of the file name.
In the domain name, directory name, and personal file name if possible.
Let's give an example.
Let's say your target keyword is dvd player.
You may want to register a domain name such as www. dvdplayers.
Com, then build a file like this. Repeat keywords only three times in the url (
In domain name, in directory name and file name)!
Let's say you can't get the domain www. dvdplayers.
Com, then don't worry about it just making a file like www. mydomain.
Com/dvdplayers. html .
By the way, if you don't know the mechanism for directory and file naming, ask your webmaster and she will know what to do.
Don't miss the opportunity to include keywords in the file name.
Instead of writing a file name that says something.
It would be better for Html to make it a dvdplayer. html.
However, do not go too far.
The file name should be short, easy to remember, and also easy to find when editing the site, but there is no need to waste the chance of optimization by naming the File: page1. html, page2. html and page3. html.
If you don't have the relevant content, then a separate file naming won't save you time, but if you have a good site but are having trouble getting rankings, then do some experiments.
Create a new directory named after the main keyword or keyword, and create a new file with the same keyword or keyword combination in the file name.
Repeat these keywords in the title tag, description tag, text body, and title of that page, and submit the new page to the search engine to see what happens.
