In Dave Meslin's article "being distracted," he linked the distraction caused by digital billboards to car accidents as the main cause of death;
He suggested that the billboard was completely unsafe and should be banned.
Meislin's claim needs to be debunked.
In Dave Meslin's article "being distracted," he linked the distraction caused by digital billboards to car accidents as the main cause of death;
He suggested that the billboard was completely unsafe and should be banned.
Meislin's claim needs to be debunked.
Meislin relies on two key studies to support his argument about the dangers of digital billboards.
He spoke out, "almost all the research shows a direct causal relationship between digital signage and driver distraction.
"While he acknowledges that the study of collisions and digital billboards is inconclusive, part of the gap in his argument lies in the fact that he has established a connection between distractions and collisions, this is not a link for researchers to attribute it to digital billboards.
For example, previous studies in the United States about driver distractionS.
The Federal Highway Administration Department of Transport concluded that moving your eyes off the road for two seconds or more would pose a safety risk.
For standard billboards, however, the average fixed time of the billboard is 379 MS and 335 Ms.
The maximum fixed time is 1.
According to this study, the time of digital billboards is 335 seconds, which does not prove to be an unsafe distraction.
Also, from a Canadian perspective, an updated study commissioned by Toronto ma and conducted for the City of Toronto, which we can see, there is very little legitimate evidence to support a billboard being associated with an accident or a highway accident caused by distraction (
Strangely, Meislin did not mention the study in his blog).
In fact, this study actually Records relevant literature on collisions and distractions, all of which are contrary to Meslin's claim (
Not just based on uncertain data).
According to the study published in September 17, 2013, in eight months
Block processing site (
Some logo faces are very close to each other, so are grouped)
, In most sites, the frequency of collisions is actually significantly reduced.
In comparing the frequency of collisions at a site, a similar discovery is added to collisions at only one site.
The study also concluded that "there is no statistically significant difference in the frequency of collisions in daytime and dark conditions before and after installation ".
Despite this study, Meislin concluded that "lobbyists in the billboard industry have used these uncertain data for collisions, so digital signage is safe for drivers.
This is a terrible distortion of truth and a distortion that puts human life at risk.
"According to the conclusive study, the credible risk of this argument is not based on research, but on the view of Meislin and the general aversion of individuals to billboards.
Although Meislin denied the uncertain data about the collision, in fact, it is important for the study.
The researchers themselves wrote that they could not come to the conclusion that the collision increased due to the billboard.
If the researchers who conducted the study did not come to these conclusions (
"The results of the front and back studies show that there is not enough evidence that the electronic static roadside advertising signs have any impact on road safety in the neighboring Middle
Block section of Highway 27 and Gardner Highway, 95% confidence ")
How can MeslinWhile Meslin claim that what is needed is a ban on outdoor digital advertising, and no one has yet acknowledged the huge level of regulation in the industry.
For example, the billboard industry can be said to be one of the most regulated industries in the City of Toronto, and Meislin is the most active in the city's appeal.
Lighting, size, position, brightness, timing (
When it is closed)
Transition between circulation-
There has been extensive regulation of anything that affects safety;
Security issues have been and will continue to be addressed in downtown Torontolaw.
The immediate ban on outdoor digital advertising proposed by Meslin will result in the loss of thousands of jobs and millions of dollars in revenue in downtown Toronto and other cities, as well as an increase in taxes.
In fact, in the City of Toronto, the city is the biggest landlord of billboards and collects millions of dollars in revenue.
This income is designated as an art community that supports Toronto.
The increase in municipal revenue is only a benefit of technological progress in the industry.
With such innovations, new ads can be displayed every 10 seconds, and can also be used for emergency notifications such as Amber Alerts, community updates, and art (
Such as paint City Sports).
As industry leaders, we want to continue this conversation and encourage the dissemination of research and facts related to outdoor signage.
We look forward to working with citizens and cities to develop regulations that will benefit everyone.
The industry is currently working together to reduce logo confusion and execution.
Why, because it is in everyone's best interest to do so.
