A Professional Manufacturer of Smart Interactive Screens For More Than 10 Years
How necessary is Windows laptop touch?
Maybe not as necessary as PC vendors and consumers thought a few years ago.
I am now using two Windows laptops with touch functionality. Here's the 140-character-or-
I need less and less touch: I hardly use it.
According to an executive I interviewed, many Dell customers don't need it.
Windows 10 came in from here.
Windows 10 is designed to make so-
Touch interface called "modern"
I'm sure someone will disagree with this description).
Use continue, for example, once you connect the mouse and keyboard, or flip your 2-in-
Back to the laptop, Windows will go to desktop mode.
The app becomes a desktop window that is easier to operate with a mouse.
Granted, with the update of Windows 8.
1, it's easy to keep Windows 7 mode now, what I call Windows 7 mode, and it doesn't interfere with the modern user interface (
If you don't want it).
But anything that makes this easier is welcome.
I guess it's not alone to use Windows sans touch on a laptop.
I consulted a Dell executive who got feedback from a large number of laptop customers.
Here's Frank Azor, one of his colleagues.
Alienware's founder, executive director/general manager of Dell's XPS product line, told me in a telephone interview when discussing Windows 10: "When windows 8 was released, it was very touch-centric, across the industry, there is a popular view that touch will actually be more popular than it is.
Touching the screen is a novel thing, and there is a lot of demand for it.
But you end up paying a considerable premium for getting a touch product.
In addition, the novelty is gradually disappearing, but some users don't think they need it.
Then he added: "A considerable proportion of our customers have chosen non-touch option.
"This idea can be seen in the new XPS 13. The entry-
Level SKUs doesn't have a touch screen because Dell doesn't think a touch screen is needed for each model.
Another advocate of this argument is Apple.
They just released a tablet. like MacBook (
2 pounds, no fan)
But there is no need to add touch despite a lot of touches
Core products like the iPhone and iPad.
What's the point to me besides saying that Windows 10 laptops may not need touch? Your wallet.
XPS 13 for non-Dell
The touch display starts at $799 and the touch version starts at $1,299 (
Even though there is more RAM/storage and higher-
Resolution Display).
Another point: the touch screen is usually heavy.
This is one of the reasons for Hewlett.
Packard chose Africa.
Touch Display on EliteBook Folio 1020 SE.
In the case of Dell, the cheaper version of XPS 13 is lighter ---
This is unusual because of the stripping weight (
This is a very difficult proposition when you are below 3 pounds)
Prices usually rise sharply.
Finally, let me say (obviously)
For products like Dell's Venue 11 Pro 7000 or Microsoft's Surface Pro, touch is necessary.
As I said before, I have used all three generations of Surface Pro extensively and have used a lot of touch.
Because that's a tablet, not a laptop.
