On Saturday, the Western Railway invited private companies, including large construction and real estate companies, to submit plans to re-develop Mumbai Centre, Bandra terminal and Borivali station using the "Swiss challenge" approach.
According to Western railway officials, the indicative cost of developing Mumbai's central station is Rs 250 and the vacant area is 16,171 m² square meters.
The reconstruction work at Bandra terminal covers an area of Rs 200 and a vacant area of 42,368 m².
Borivali will cost Rs 250 and will re-develop 11,475 of vacant land.
According to a statement earlier by the Ministry of Railways, the national transportation company is considering rebuilding the station to improve the passenger experience by providing convenient facilities such as digital signage and escalators, elevator, self-service ticket counter, executive lounge, luggage shuttle, sidewalk, passenger waiting area, magnificent and unique roof and floor, free and paid Wi-Fi etc.
In addition, the commercial development near the station will become the nerve center of the city and provide quality retail, commercial and hotel development.
