The American Heart Association says children spend too much time in front of the screen and it urges parents to significantly reduce the amount of time their children spend using their phones, computers, tablets and video games.
Children and adolescents between the ages of 8 and 18 spend an average of more than 7 hours a day watching the screen.
AHA\'s new warning suggests parents limit their child\'s screen time to up to two hours per day.
For young children between the ages of 2 and 5, it is recommended to limit one hour per day.
The study linked screen time to increased sedentary behavior in children and adolescents.
While there is no long-term evidence to link screening time to increased risk of health conditions such as cardiovascular disease and high cholesterol, there is growing evidence that this is related to obesity, CBS News medical contributor

\"Of course, it can introduce them to ideas, information, current events, and even health education that they may not be able to get normally,\" Narula said . \".
\"It can also connect them to people who may have lived very far geographically, such as family and friends, and allow them to participate in school projects and assignments.
